Rooted in Malnad. Since 2000.
Sagara Photographic Society was founded in January 2000 by Dr. D. V. Rao, who served as its first President. Based in Sagara, Karnataka, SPS brings together photographers with a shared interest in learning, making and appreciating photographs.
The rain-washed hills, ancient temples and everyday life of Malnad form a rich backdrop to the society’s work. Light, land and people come together as stories in a photograph.
A culture of learning
From local gatherings, SPS grew into an active photographic society known for state and All-India salons, including the Dr. D. V. Rao Memorial contests. Its programmes share photographic culture across Shivamogga district and beyond.
Salons, field trips, mentoring and image reviews create opportunities to learn from experienced photographers, develop a visual language and exhibit photographic work.
At Ninasam, Heggodu
The society’s annual residential workshop brings photographers together for lectures, image reviews, practical shooting sessions and conversations about art, cinema and literature.
