An Evening Stroll — The quiet geometry of ordinary life
How light, thatch, shadow and the placement of cattle give an ordinary lane its pictorial rhythm.
SAGARA PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY
In Malnad, light arrives through rain, rests upon old temple walls, and follows the quiet rhythms of everyday life. Sagara Photographic Society brings together people who want to look more closely at this world and express what they discover through photographs. Rooted in Sagara, our vision is to nurture thoughtful photographers through shared learning, patient observation and an appreciation of the image as an art form. Through workshops, salons and conversations, SPS creates room for different eyes and new ideas—a place where the beauty of our surroundings becomes a starting point for curiosity, craft and connection.
Discover SPSOUR HISTORY
Sagara · January 2000
Dr. D. V. Rao founded Sagara Photographic Society in January 2000 and served as its first President. What began with the wish to encourage photographers grew into a society known for learning programmes, exhibitions and state and All-India salons.
From mentoring young photographers to the Dr. D. V. Rao Memorial contests, SPS has carried photographic culture across Shivamogga district and beyond. Its history continues through the images people make, the knowledge they share, and the conversations that bring them together.
The story of SPS
OUR FOUNDER · 1913–2004
A physician, writer and distinguished pictorial photographer, Dr. Dodderi Venkatagiri Rao found expression in both words and images. His service to photography reached far beyond Malnad, yet his encouragement of young photographers gave that work a deeply local life. SPS carries forward the spirit of learning and artistic curiosity at the heart of his legacy.

A dark arch, a luminous courtyard and a human pause: the framing and tonal grace of DVR’s Admiration.

An attentive reading of converging streets, sculpted stone and the solitary figure that gives DVR’s Roman vista its human pulse.
